Exxon's "Rumsfeldian" position on climate change

1 Jun 07

Looks like ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson dusted off Donald Rumsfeld's PR play-book in explaining Exxon's stance on global warming, here's the quote:

There's much we know and can agree on around the climate change issue, and there’s much that we just don’t believe we do know…and we want to have a debate about the things we know and understand, the things we know about that we don’t understand very well, and the things we don’t even know about around this very complex issue of climate science. So that will continue to be our position."

Thanks for clearing that up Mr. Tillerson.

NASA Administrator the White House "denier-of-the-day"

31 May 07

In the same week that NASA scientists are reporting that we are at a dangerous and critical global warming tipping point, their top administrator will take to the airwaves tomorrow morning with a very different, if not diametrically opposite message.

According to a NPR press release out today, Michael Griffin, President Bush's appointment to the NASA administrator position, states:

...a trend of global warming exists, I am not sure that it is fair to say that it is a problem we must wrestle with.” H/T: Prometheus and Rabbet Run

Are you a global warming denier? Take the Heib Global Warming Test

29 May 07

A DeSmogBlog fan passed on to us a "Global Warming Test" making the email rounds today.

The site is run by Monte and Harrison Heib and the intro for the test states:

"Caution: This section contains sound science, not media hype, and may therefore contain material not suitable for young people trying to get a good grade in political correctness."

Sound science?

We have learned here at the DeSmogBlog that any disclaimer containing the words "sound science" most likely means you're about to be spun faster than a weather vain. And the Heib Test proves, once again, that this is a "sound assumption."

"Think" tank throws down gauntlet... right on its own foot

23 May 07

The National Center for Public Policy Research, a group well known to DeSmogBlog, issued a press release yesterday challenging Greenpeace to disclose all of its funding sources over $50,000.

The release states: Today The National Center for Public Policy Research is challenging Greenpeace and its affiliates to disclose the sources and amounts of its 2006 donations exceeding $50,000. If it does so, The National Center for Public Policy Research will do the same."A quick spin around the Greenpeace site and you'll find their annual reports dating back to 2002. Contained in those reports is full disclosure of Greenpeace donors.
